    Important: MyInvois e-invoicing

Malaysia’s Inland Revenue Board (LHDN/HASiL) has phased in mandatory e-invoicing through MyInvois. Businesses in scope must submit each invoice to LHDN for validation, and a validated e-invoice carries a unique ID and QR code.

A PDF made here is not a MyInvois e-invoice. Smaller businesses under LHDN’s exemption threshold, which the government raised during 2026, don’t need to issue e-invoices. Check the current threshold on LHDN’s website. This template is useful for:

    • businesses below the e-invoicing threshold
    • quotations and proforma invoices before a sale
    • a readable cover document to send alongside a validated e-invoice

Sales tax and service tax (SST)

Malaysia has no GST or VAT. Instead, Royal Malaysian Customs (JKDM) runs SST, which is two separate taxes:

    TaxApplies toCommon rates
Service taxListed taxable services8% for most services; 6% for some, such as food and beverage
Sales taxTaxable goods made in or imported into Malaysia5% or 10%, depending on the goods

Only SST-registered businesses charge SST. Because the rate depends on what you sell, the preset starts with tax off; use “Per item” if lines have different rates. Check MySST for the current lists.

    Frequently asked questions

Is an invoice from this template a valid e-invoice?

No. It is not submitted to MyInvois. If your business is in scope for e-invoicing, issue the official invoice through MyInvois or your e-invoicing software.

What is the SST rate in Malaysia?

Service tax is 8% for most taxable services, with 6% for some. Sales tax on goods is mainly 5% or 10%. Check Customs’ MySST portal for your products.

Where do I put my SST registration number?

Put your TIN in the “Tax / VAT ID” field and add the SST number in the notes, for example “SST No. W10-0000-00000000”.

Can I invoice foreign clients in US dollars?

Yes. Change the currency in the editor. Services to foreign clients may not be subject to service tax, so check with Customs.
