- Add your business name and your NTN in the “Tax / VAT ID” field. Add your STRN in the notes if you are registered for sales tax.
- Add your client’s name, and their NTN or STRN if they are a business.
- List the goods or services in rupees.
- If you charge sales tax, turn on Tax in Totals and set the rate that applies (see below).
- Add your bank or Raast details in the notes, then download the PDF.
Important: FBR integration and sales tax invoices
Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) rules require many sales tax-registered businesses to issue invoices through systems integrated with FBR, such as POS integration for retailers and FBR digital invoicing for businesses, with a QR code and invoice number from FBR. The rollout has been phased and deadlines have changed.
A PDF made here is not an FBR-integrated invoice. It is useful for:
- quotations and proforma invoices before a sale
- freelancers and businesses not registered for sales tax
- clients outside Pakistan, and receipts for your own records
Check fbr.gov.pk or ask a tax consultant for the rules that apply to you.
Federal and provincial sales tax
| Tax | Applies to | Collected by |
|---|---|---|
| Sales tax on goods | Goods; standard rate 18% | FBR (federal) |
| Sales tax on services | Services; rate depends on the province and the service | Provincial authorities such as PRA, SRB, KPRA and BRA |
Because the rate depends on what you sell and where, the preset starts with tax off. Show your NTN, and your STRN or provincial registration number if registered. Some clients deduct withholding tax before paying; the invoice shows the full amount.
Frequently asked questions
Is an invoice from this template valid for FBR?
It is a proper commercial invoice, but it is not an FBR-integrated invoice. If integration applies to you, issue sales tax invoices through your integrated system.
What is the sales tax rate in Pakistan?
The standard federal rate on goods is 18%. Services are taxed by the provinces at their own rates. Check FBR and your provincial revenue authority.
What is the difference between NTN and STRN?
The NTN is your income tax number. The STRN is your sales tax registration number, which registered businesses show on sales tax invoices.
Can I invoice foreign clients in dollars?
Yes. Change the currency to USD in the editor. Exported IT services can have special treatment, so check with your tax consultant.
