How to open an XRechnung or ZUGFeRD file
- Save the e-invoice you received (an
.xmlfile, or a PDF with the data inside). - Drop it onto the box above, or click Choose a file.
- Read the invoice: seller, buyer, line items, VAT, totals and bank details.
- Click Print or save as PDF to keep a readable copy.
Keep the original e-invoice file too: for tax purposes, the structured file is the invoice, not the printout.
Which e-invoice formats can it read?
- XRechnung, Germany’s e-invoicing standard, in both syntaxes (UBL and CII)
- ZUGFeRD and Factur-X hybrid PDFs, used in Germany and France
- Peppol BIS Billing 3.0, used in Belgium and across the Peppol network
- Other invoices and credit notes following the European standard EN 16931
Why you need an e-invoice viewer
With e-invoicing, invoices arrive as structured XML that software reads directly. That is great for accounting software, but hard for people to read. Since 1 January 2025, every business in Germany must be able to receive e-invoices, so many freelancers and small businesses now get files they cannot open. This viewer turns them back into a readable invoice. See our guide to e-invoicing in Germany for the deadlines.
Private by design
The viewer runs entirely in your browser. Your e-invoice is never uploaded or stored on a server, so supplier names, bank details and amounts stay on your device. It even works offline once the page has loaded.

How do I open an XRechnung file?
Drop the .xml file onto the viewer on this page, or click “Choose a file”. It shows the invoice in a readable layout that you can print or save as a PDF, for free.
Is my e-invoice uploaded anywhere?
No. The file is read by your browser on your own device. Nothing is sent to a server.
Can it read ZUGFeRD and Factur-X PDFs?
Yes. It finds the XML data inside the PDF and shows it. You can also open the PDF itself, since a hybrid PDF already has a readable page.
Does it check whether the e-invoice is valid?
It shows what the invoice says, not whether it passes every legal rule. For a formal check, use the official KoSIT validator or ask your accounting software provider.
Is the printout a valid invoice?
For your records, keep the original e-invoice file. The structured file is the legal invoice; the printout is a readable copy.
